Old News: September 1911

by: Kenneth Wren

While doing some family research, I came across this article in the 'social column' of the Friday, September 8, 1911 issue of the Temiskaming Speaker, now known as the New Liskeard Speaker. I obtained this article while going through micro-film reels that are available at the Haileybury Public Library. The article reads as follows:

Sesekinika Lake

The surveyors have been engaged lately surveying lots on the islands and shore of this lake. Sesekinika surely will be a flourishing summer resort in the near future.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren, Miss Warren and Miss Helen Warren, who for the past two weeks have been camping here, left for their home in Muncie, Indiana, on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dukes who have been residents of Sesekinika for the past month returned on Tuesday from Haileybury where they were visitors for a few days.

Messrs. Lequee and Tobicoe left on Monday to spend a week at Swastika.

Mr. J.T. Kerr of Detroit, who is operating the property of the Golden Ridge Mining Co., about 2 miles east of Sesekinika, was pleased to recieve a visit from Mr. Thos. McDowell, an engineer from Detroit who is paying this section a visit and making an inspection of the Golden Ridge properties. Mr. McDowell stated that he was satisfied with the showings on this property.
